Desperado Declares

It has rained so often on our February match that I guess we’ll have to call it a tradition!  Guess what? It rained on and off this year too.  Luckily, we had 16 hardy cowboys who shot the match despite the rain.

I gotta tell you, shooting in the rain is a kick.  It was a fun match with great stages.  From now on I’ll have to admit that our own “Goldenruel” is an authentic die-hard cowboy action shooter.  He shot in the rain.  Well, most of the match anyway.

Goldenruel replies

It was darn nice of Desperado to admit me to the ranks of authentic cowboys, but I have to point out that I was a cowboy before he was born, as the photo of me above proves!

Another point.  Desperado said it only rained on and off.  That’s true, but he didn’t mention that the intermittent rainfall was exactly coordinated with my turns to shoot.  I got drenched but I agree with him that it was a kick and I had a heck of good time as long as it lasted.  That brings me to a final correction.

Shooting with me was my best friend (after my dogs) “T.R.” who adopted that cowboy alias because he used to show up in a Rough Rider Uniform with Teddy’s glasses and all.  Bully!

TR’s real name is General Sir Richard Pierce (believe it or not.)  And although he’s officially retired, the army has kept him too busy since 9/11 to shoot with us.

Dick insisted on shooting his Colts even though I urged him to get two good Italian repros like mine.  As I was only an SFC, the general paid me no heed.  I was vindicated when one of his overpriced six-guns decided to stop working on stage four.  That, and only that, was the reason we didn’t finish the match.  Old soldiers never quit.  We just faded away.
