Desperado Declares

It’s one year now since we bought the Northfield range and took on a horrendous mortgage.  We’re very grateful to you all for your support and the kind words we’ve been getting about how we’re running the matches.  Thanks to our shooters, we’re still solvent and it looks like we’re going to stay that way, if we don’t screw up too badly.

The weather for our January match turned out to be great, even though it was a little cool early in the morning, if not down right cold.  But, as I’m often told, cowboys are a rugged breed and we had a wonderful turnout.

Thanks also for expressing your preference concerning the possible date change of the 2005 "Great Northfield Raid".  The questionnaire is also here on our web site.  We need and appreciate your guidance.

Shooting News

“Tex Fiddler” isn’t just a fine fellow, a good shooter and part of the superb Provenzano Stage Design Team, he’s just become a stringer for The Northfield Gazette.  Here’s the report he sent in to our editorial offices:

Lead Dispenser went to Orlando for their annual shoot, "The Last Stand." We got several reports on him; most of which were about how well he conducted himself; a true gentleman and great representative of our sport. He even got an award for carrying the fight for our second amendment rights in the "hostile environment of college campuses in California." By the way, Spence won the Men's Traditional, the Overall Match, and Sunday's Top Gun Shoot off.”

Spence wasn't the only Northfield shooter who made the trip. Lefty Longridge came in second overall, Fredrick Jackson Turner won Men's Duelist and Lusty Lil won the Ladies Modern.  Congratulations to them all.

About our cowboy computer.

Maybe it was the January cold, or maybe cowboys and computers don’t always get along.  But our scoring program decided to develop a glitch and it caused us to get started about 20 minutes late.  We apologize for the delay, but Mild Bill Hiccup, our computer wrangler is on top of things now.  He came up with a new scoring program that will allow him and the crew, Nancy and Desiré, to compile the match results quicker from now on.  Good Lord willing and the creek don’t rise.  They’ll also be able to print a certificate of congratulations for the 1st place winners, including their category, alias and date of the match. Is that slick or what?
